Cholera in Haiti

In October 2010, Haiti experienced a cholera outbreak in the wake of the country’s efforts to recover from the 2010 earthquake.

The cholera epidemic led to over 820,000 cases and over 10,000 deaths. As part of the United Nations Office of the Secretary-General’s Special Adviser on Community Based Medicine and Lessons from Haiti, SII’s team advocated for the use of the oral cholera vaccine and tracked how official development assistance was implemented.
